About Style Savvy: Fashion Forward

Updated 8/24/2016

Style Savvy: Fashion Forward (known as New Style Boutique 2: Fashion Forward in other parts of the world) is a title for Nintedo’s 3DS handheld, third in a series of well-loved games developed by Syn Sophia studios and published by Nintendo. The pioneer title, Style Savvy, was released in October 2008 for the Nintendo DS, with its sequel Trendsetters launched in late October of 2012. After clamoring for the next installation for months and months, American fans were finally rewarded with a release date of August 19th, 2016!

Although the titles have gotten some flak for the repetitive nature of running a boutique day-in and day-out, for the most part they’ve been met with very positive reviews, as they’re quite a bit more substantial than some of the other fashion-themed games on the market. Fashion Forward in particular allows the player to move freely between five different career tracks—Boutique Manager, Hair Stylist, Make-Up Artist, Clothing Designer, and Model—which I plan to thoroughly enjoy as I explore the game. This one is also compatible with amiibo, and can even make use of your Miis to generate new visitors for the boutique!

Nintendo’s official website can be found here. There are also a bunch of fun screenshots available on other blogs, including as Tumblr’s Style Savvy tag archive (the one for Trendsetters is great, too), and and a community of dedicated and friendly players can be found on GameFAQs and the NeoGaf forums thread. To anyone out there who’s thinking of picking up the game just to see what it’s about, I’d say go for it! If you think you’re going to like it, then I can guarantee you’re sure to love it.

And if all that isn’t enough to sate your curiosity, enjoy this official trailer!

For posterity’s sake, here’s the trailer for Trendsetters as well, featuring gameplay and part of the opening cinematic.
