Mira Luna is…Mine?!

So, so much has happened lately here in Styleville. It all started when Celeste, who did Emmylou’s hair the other day, came in asking for a bold outfit. I put one together for her, and then we made plans to meet at the café later on.

When I arrived, Celeste’s friend Ingrid happened to be passing by, and the two of them told me that they’re planning on opening hair and makeup salons here in town! I was thrilled to hear it, and even more happy that they’re letting me in on their plans. It’ll be the group of us—me and Michaela at Mira Luna, Celeste at the hair salon, and Ingrid at the makeup store—helping the entire community become more fashionable. I can’t wait! 

After our meeting, I headed back to Mira Luna, where we were having a rare slow moment. Michaela suggested I put together an outfit for her, which was really fun.

 She loved it, and talked about how fast I’d grown and stuff.

And then.

She asked if I maybe wanted to run the boutique.

As in, did I maybe want to take over the management of Mira Luna.

Before I could say no, or talk about how my homework keeps me busy, Michaela made up her mind and Mira Luna became mine! Honestly, I can’t say I’m upset—I was kind of hoping for this sort of career-advancement in the fashion world when I took the job at Mira Luna, but I never expected such a big break to come so soon! Next, Michaela called up this guy Harris, and together the three of us picked out a new interior for the boutique. We also renamed it Lilac Breeze, which I think goes very well with the “elegant” -themed interior I chose.

The renovation took a couple of days, and in that time we also had our first snowfall. It looks so nice outside, and plus, it’s a great excuse to wear a cute coat! Emmylou came over first thing on the day of my grand re-opening day to say hi and wish me good luck. The boutique had a super-successful first day, and I even met one of the customers for tea at the café after work.


I also have Shea working as my part-time assistant now, so I’m confident that when my studies call me away from fashion for a little while, she’ll be able to hold down the fort.

And to end on a high note, Celeste said the hair salon will be opening soon—finally, a chance for me to play around with some layers and highlights!

All About Emmylou

Today was full of all sorts of new styles—punk, princess, feminine, and more. But first things first: let’s start where I started my day—at the Buyer’s Center! In the morning I got a notice on my phone saying that there were two new stores opening at the Buyer’s Center, namely Über Cloth and Stage Dive. So I checked them out on my way to work, and reps Penny and Ginger lost no time putting together outfits for me to try on.

After that, I made a quick stop at the café before going to Mira Luna, where the first thing I noticed was Emmylou’s new hairstyle! Apparently she got it done by Celeste, who’s planning to open a hair salon in town soon. Michaela dressed Emmylou in a princess-style outfit to match her new hair, and then got to help out the first couple I’ve seen come into the store!

And when I stopped at my apartment later, deliveryman Brad was there with my new stuff from the Buyer’s Center.

Back at Mira Luna, Emmylou asked me for a “feminine” outfit, which I tried to match to her hairstyle, and then we went out for a walk in the park.

I helped a couple more customers, using a new “try it on right away!” suggestion that Michaela introduced me to, and then it was time to close up. My boss pulled me aside before we left, and she and Emmylou explained that my co-worker is going to be moving on in the world of style to work as a full-time stylist. I can’t say I won’t miss her, but I am happy for her—best of luck, Emmylou!

Happy New Year! My New Year’s Day was absolutely packed, and I wasn’t exactly at full energy thanks to the fireworks that kept going off between midnight and two in the morning. As I was brushing my teeth and getting ready for the day, Emmylou stopped by and dropped off a package of clothes! It was a gift from Michaela, who encourages us, as walking representatives of Mira Luna, to always look our best. Of course, I already had a modest selection of items from my time in town, but it was nice to get some new additions to my wardrobe! There were pieces from a bunch of different brands, so I played around with my outfit for a while. I was also able to redesign my apartment interior—my options are pretty limited, but I at least swapped out the wallpaper before heading to the boutique.

My shift started with a request for a “pop” style skirt from a new customer, but unfortunately we were all out. However, Daphne, another of Michaela’s fashion-world comrades, stepped in right around then, and she offered to give me an intro to the process of restocking. The two of us headed over to the Buyer’s Center, where Daphne works and where Michaela, Emmylou or I can go to purchase new clothes if our stock starts getting low.

I was only looking for one specific item, so we went to the Mint Sprinkles store, where Connie, the brand representative, outfitted me in an all-pop ensemble. It was…um…bright. And yellow. And really freakin’ adorable.

Anyway, once I’d purchased the items I needed, I went back to Mira Luna and served a couple of customers before it was time to close up shop. But Emmylou didn’t have a key and neither did I, and Michaela had just stepped out to go meet Avery. Fortunately, I found them at the café right around the corner, and then Avery started talking about—contests?

She left before I could really ask what she meant, and by then it was pretty late, so I headed on home, where, as I was brushing my teeth and getting ready for bed, I had one last surprise. This guy Brad stopped by to deliver my purchases from the Buyer’s Center, because every time I shop there, I get the items I bought delivered to my personal closet! After a minute spent browsing the new arrivals, I hit the hay. All in all, an awesome first day of 2013.

My first day on the job was certainly interesting. The day started out with me meeting Emmylou, Michaela’s other part-time sales assistant. She also works as a freelance stylist a few days a week, and I like her already—she’s so friendly and fun to be around.

She let me help most of the customers who came in, even though I am, as I was reminded several times today, the “newbie.” Still, a newbie can please customers, too, especially with people as knowledgeable as Michaela and Emmylou to offer background advice!

With some tips from my more experienced coworkers, I got an introduction to layering tops and matching different “tastes” by looking at the brands that went with them. I filled in some new Style Index items on my phone as well—what a handy little thing to have! With this app, I can always check if I forget which brand is which taste, etc. Toward the end of my shift, Avery, a former model, stopped in to say hi. Apparently she and Michaela go way back, and according to Emmylou, she’s really picky and hard to please, but she liked the bag I chose for her! That made my day, and Michaela closed up shop on a high note. I headed back to my apartment, heated up some vegetable soup for dinner, took a quick shower, and crashed.

I love working at Mira Luna, though—even if it’s tiring, there are so many new faces, and I’ve already met some higher-ups in the fashion industry. Just on day one! Why didn’t I look around for this kind of job opportunity last year?

I Got the Job!

Turns out I didn’t even need to fill out an application—I just walked up to the store, said hi, and got hired. There was this lady outside carrying a bunch of boxes and wearing a short-sleeved shirt even though it’s the end of December and pretty darn cold outside. Anyway, the actual hiring happened sort of like this:

Me: Wow, I love that mannequin in the store window display. And, um, I was wondering—

Michaela: Hey, thanks for noticing! Now, mind holding the door for me?

Me: Uh, okay, sure I guess…

Inside the store:
Michaela: So, I coordinated the outfit myself, and this is Mira Luna, where all the fabulous people come. And what about you? What’s your name? What’s your birthday?

Me: And you want to know this why…?

Michaela: Oh, I just like to pry that way. Hey look, a customer! You can help the next one, alright?

So I outfitted this customer in a really cute pair of jeans, and Michaela was all: You’re a natural! Want to work here? So of course I said yes, because this is just the break I’ve been waiting for! Mira Luna doesn’t pay hourly, but I get a 100% commission on everything I sell, which is a tough deal to beat. After the initial flurry of getting-hired excitement, my new boss said to come back and start work tomorrow. I’m not exactly sure why she’s open on New Year’s Eve, but apparently the fashion-conscious in this town never sleep. Anyway, I don’t have anything else planned, so why the heck not?
