Be Hair Now

8/29/2016

As I mentioned in my last post, there’s this girl Callie here in town, and she’s an idol to most budding fashionistas who live here. And as I discovered today, some fans will go to greater lengths than others…

“You know, I just don’t think the pose is quite right! Why can’t I seem to capture that pure essence of cool?!”

Such as this girl Xiaoling, a new acquaintance who quickly became a walking advertising campaign after she roped me in to helping her look like Callie!

“I like it, but something’s still missing…”

While she approved of the “bold” outfit I put together for her, it still wasn’t enough to get her the look she’d been dreaming of. After a chat over coffee at the neighborhood café, Xiaoling and I came to the conclusion that there’s always more to an outfit than just the clothes…

Of course—the hair and makeup!!

The beautician’s and hair salon here in town are fairly basic in their offerings, so when Xiaoling burst in demanding makeup that matched a photo, Arabella, the store owner, didn’t know what to do.

“Susan, I—I’m so sorry, but—could you handle this?!”

HNI_0034

Turns out I’m not too bad at doing makeup…

Or styling hair, for that matter!

After Xiaoling’s transformation, everyone wanted to try my new services. Arabella and Noor–the owner of the hair salon–were more than happy to have me come by to take on clients.

And I have to say, there’s something about wielding a comb and scissors…

Let’s See if I Can Sew

4/9/13

So for the end of the year and graduation and all that, of course there are going to be a bunch of parties and things, and of course, being the trendsetter that I am, I’m going to be invited to a whole bunch of them. Naturally, I could just wear any old thing, but I was kind of thinking about designing a dress for myself and then trying my hand at making it…or not. We’ll see what happens, right? But I wear so many clothes that someone else designed for me—I just think it would be cool to dig out some of my old paper dolls and make one of those ideas a reality. Unfortunately, I don’t own a sewing machine, and the one time I used one at a friend’s house in college, it managed to tie the thread into a massive knot that wouldn’t budge for a week or two.

…Yeah, we’ll see what happens this time.

March in Photos

4/7/13

A little late for this recap (and also I have almost no photos to show from March, having been closeted in my apartment with my computer in order to desperately mad-dash all my homework together), but better not on time than not at all!

St. Patrick’s Day

3/16/13

Or “St. Patty’s Day,” as we like to call it here in Styleville. It was a slow day in the store, because the weather was gorgeous and everyone was out celebrating. I did get a couple of people in around lunchtime…

Recognize these faces?

Recognize these faces?

…and after I’d found what’s-her-face a springy outfit, they asked if I wanted to meet them down at the waterfront. Well, of course I said yes, because I don’t think I’ve ever been to that part of town before, and apparently the water gets dyed green every year in honor of the holiday.

Wow, check out that green!

Wow, check out that color!

I’ll admit it was a little bit awful seeing the river such a bright emerald…

What the heck do they put in the water to make it look like that?

…but it was worth it to the fun time I had and the photos I got. Here’s to next St. Patty’s Day!

Pie, Anyone?

3/14/13

I’ll just start this off by saying: happy Pie Day! Yes, today is Pie Day, in honor of the resemblance of the date to that wonderful number, Pi. I had a really good day today, made better by the fact that the cake shop had a half-off special on slices or whole pies. Guess where I ate breakfast this morning? You’ll never imagine how good a fresh piece of hot blueberry pie with whole berries and whipped cream tastes when eaten at an outdoor table in the warm, springy air…sigh. You couldn’t get a more perfect experience—it was just lovely. After that I was back to business as usual—helping customers, getting my hair done, and hitting the Buyer’s Center to browse through the latest deals. Hope your Pi Day was every bit as delicious as mine!

See, even Phillip likes pie!

Flames of…Games?

3/3/13

Now that it’s so nice out, I spent most of my day today just wandering around town, complementing people on their springtime style choices and playing around with a bunch of different ideas. I have so much to think about now that the weather’s warming up, and so many new style options are opening up to me! Talk about a day of inspiration. Of course, when I got back to the apartment, my brother decided to pop in and lend me a new video game he got recently; it’s called Fire Emblem: Awakening, and fortunately he also dropped off the system for me to borrow. I guess he already beat it? Either way, I may not have time for blogging for the next couple of days, with a new videogame to check out…

At least my apartment’s all snazzed out so I can play in comfort!

Springtime in Styleville!

3/1/13

When I woke up this morning, I knew there was something different in the air, and as soon as I stepped outside, I found out why: It’s the first day of March today, and here in Styleville, where things happen punctually, that also means the first day of spring. I got a nice new hairstyle, because as Celeste always tells me, a new hairstyle can help you see the world in new ways, and I am so ready to kiss winter good-bye. Afterward I ran all around town meeting friends and checking out people’s warmer-weather outfits—take a look at my photos!

Rain and Snow and Rain and Snow and Rain

4/6/13

Phew! Sorry about the whole vanishing-off-the-face-of-the-Internet thing. School, school, school—that’s all I can think about lately. Forget about the boutique, the interior design stuff that really needs to happen around the apartment, and, oh, y’know, grocery shopping or having a life. I haven’t even been to the concert house in over a month! Also, the weather’s turned gross again. See my title? That’s the forecast for the next couple of days. At least it’ll be warm enough for me to wear my new rainboots, right?

Gotta love that Marzipan Sky!

Gotta love that Marzipan Sky!

In all seriousness, though, I will be trying really hard in the next week to get caught up on a backlog of extremely old posts. Once all of those are out of the way, I hope to start updating with one post each week. Wish me luck!

New Girl in Town

2/15/13

Today, on my way to the Contest Hall to style a model for my second Elite Contest, I had a flash of inspiration and shot a text to my neighbor who lives a couple of apartments down the hall. She’s just as into fashion as I am, and Avery and Michaela didn’t see a problem with us styling something together, so that’s just what we did. It’s too bad my cell ran out of battery halfway through, or I would have gotten a photo of her and her winning model.
