Be Hair Now

As I mentioned in my last post, there’s this girl Callie here in town, and she’s an idol to most budding fashionistas who live here. And as I discovered today, some fans will go to greater lengths than others…

“You know, I just don’t think the pose is quite right! Why can’t I seem to capture that pure essence of cool?!”

Such as this girl Xiaoling, a new acquaintance who quickly became a walking advertising campaign after she roped me in to helping her look like Callie!

“I like it, but something’s still missing…”

While she approved of the “bold” outfit I put together for her, it still wasn’t enough to get her the look she’d been dreaming of. After a chat over coffee at the neighborhood café, Xiaoling and I came to the conclusion that there’s always more to an outfit than just the clothes…

Of course—the hair and makeup!!

The beautician’s and hair salon here in town are fairly basic in their offerings, so when Xiaoling burst in demanding makeup that matched a photo, Arabella, the store owner, didn’t know what to do.

“Susan, I—I’m so sorry, but—could you handle this?!”

Turns out I’m not too bad at doing makeup…

Or styling hair, for that matter!

After Xiaoling’s transformation, everyone wanted to try my new services. Arabella and Noor–the owner of the hair salon–were more than happy to have me come by to take on clients.

And I have to say, there’s something about wielding a comb and scissors…

…that just makes me feel alive! (New hair, anyone?!?)

Blast from the Past

You know how sometimes you put together lots of cute outfits, then forget to take the pictures out of your album long enough to upload them? Yeah, that’s kind of what happened to me this past January. Before we go on with the new fun in Beaumonde, here are just a few older fashion adventures for your viewing pleasure! Enjoy. ❤

I’m Alive … and Wanting

Well, hello there! To all the faithful readers who have browsed pages in my absence—thank you so much for supporting and believing in me. Your readership has meant a lot over the past couple of years! So much has happened that I’m not quite sure where to begin, but I’m confident that you don’t want to hear all about school, school, and school, where is where most of my time has gone. The boutique and life in general have also kept me busy-busy-busy, too busy to do more than think about the blog every once in a while. However, now that I’m officially coming back, I want to get things off to the right sort of re-start!

On that note, I suppose I’ll address the most pressing matter from the get-go: I’m thinking that it’s time to move on from sleepy little Styleville—to begin truly making my way up in the fashion world. While I love the city and all it has to offer, and I’ve made great friends here and taken amazing strides within my own career, I can’t shake the feeling that there’s something else out there—something more, that’s waiting for me. So I looked around a little, and started hearing word through the grapevine about a place called Beaumonde City.

What’s Beaumonde City, you ask? An excellent question, seeing as I hadn’t heard of it myself before just a couple of days ago. Well, apparently, it is THE place to be if you’re anyone who wants to become Anyone in the fashion world these days. Beaumonde’s passion for fashion had flagged in the past—perhaps why I hadn’t heard of the place before—but now the community is coming back steady and strong, providing openings in retail, modeling, hair styling, cosmetics, and even clothing design for up-and-coming fashionistas such as yours truly! As if that weren’t enough to tempt me, apparently my grandmother left me an inheritance there, something from years ago. I’m not sure what it might be, but I do have a feeling that it will be key to establishing my place in this brave new space.

The only complication is that Beaumonde is far—quite far—from where I’m living now. So it’s going to take me a bit of time to pack my bags and say good-bye to Styleville University, and to the people who have taught me and helped me so much over the years. On top of that, I’ll have to do what may be the hardest thing of all—that is, say good-bye to Lilac Breeze, and hand it over to the assistants who have more than proven their worth through all the times they’ve been there to lend me a helping hand.

No one said it would be easy, but I believe I’m ready for it. And one way or the other, you can be sure that new adventures in fashion await us! Check back soon for more—and know that, for the time being, I’m back for good.

Time to Go Short

You know me—I find one hairstyle I like, I stick with it. I don’t know how long this one will stay around, but for the time being, I’m going short for the summer!

Aah, too cute!

After getting my hair done, I took a jog in the park, where I bumped into this gal Jerry Ann, who promised mint tea next time we meet.

Jerry Ann

Her garden’s full of the stuff!

Daisy’s booth was just a couple of steps away, so I chose green for my color of the day, and guess what herb she named? Mint!

Green…mint…wisdom…your lucky item is soda pop!

After hearing all that, it was time to go home and settle in over a nice cup of mint tea.

After turning my décor all-green, of course! …Well, mostly green. It’s the thought that counts.

April in Photos

Although my presence around Lilac Breeze was spotty at best this month, and while I still have plenty of homework and more than enough projects, it wouldn’t do for me to miss my monthly recap, now, would it? As you can see, I’m really digging this little swept-back hairstyle I discovered…

Everything at Once

This spring weather has prompted lots of fun activities—today alone, I went three different places with three different people.

Four, counting my visit to the café!

Four, counting my visit to the café!

It started in the morning, when I met this girl Muriel in the rose garden…

Her hair’s the perfect color for this place!

…followed by a trip to the amusement park with Phillip.

Dude, how much cooler can you get?

I then went on a big furniture shopping spree and totally redecorated my apartment.

Tastefully modern!

Tastefully modern…

But, a little uncomfortable. I think I’ll change it back tomorrow.

But a little uncomfortable. Think I’ll change it back tomorrow.

After that, I put together a nicer outfit for my last event of the day—meeting one of my customers at the hotel for strawberry desserts.

Man, these things will never get old.

Down on it, Daphne

Guess who stopped by my store today? That’s right—Daphne, from the Buyer’s Center!

Guess she came by just to check out the new décor—that’s right, I changed the store around!

 I picked out a blouse for her…

Not bad, eh?

Not bad, huh?

…and later met Emmylou downtown.

Nice hair, if you don’t mind me saying.

Lookin’ good, girlfriend!

To finish the day off with a bang, I ran into Harris at the tearoom, where I helped him choose between cheesecake and chocolate.

In case you’re wondering, he bought both!

Welcome to February

Hey, my first entry of the new month—rabbits, everybody! …Yeah, nevermind. Anyway, my day went much as you might imagine—I put together an outfit and styled my hair to match, and then met a couple of people around town. Later I hit the photo studio and did my first solo shoot, which yielded a really cool batch of pictures. Totally worth the money!

And because I had a huge mess of laundry clogging my apartment floor—I mean, who wouldn’t, with that many clothes?—I decided to put in a load at the complex’s Laundromat. I did my sheets and bedding, too! Man, it’ll be nice to have a clean bed, but my room still needs some serious dusting.  What with all that activity and a (very expensive—over $3,000 blown at just one store!) trip to the Buyer’s Center, I didn’t even have a chance to visit my shop today! It was all good, though, because yesterday I appointed this new guy Danny to take over as my assistant when I can’t make it in. Hopefully tomorrow will be a little more low-key and will involve a few less chores…
