Be Hair Now

8/29/2016

As I mentioned in my last post, there’s this girl Callie here in town, and she’s an idol to most budding fashionistas who live here. And as I discovered today, some fans will go to greater lengths than others…

“You know, I just don’t think the pose is quite right! Why can’t I seem to capture that pure essence of cool?!”

Such as this girl Xiaoling, a new acquaintance who quickly became a walking advertising campaign after she roped me in to helping her look like Callie!

HNI_0023

“I like it, but something’s still missing…”

While she approved of the “bold” outfit I put together for her, it still wasn’t enough to get her the look she’d been dreaming of. After a chat over coffee at the neighborhood café, Xiaoling and I came to the conclusion that there’s always more to an outfit than just the clothes…

HNI_0024

Of course—the hair and makeup!!

The beautician’s and hair salon here in town are fairly basic in their offerings, so when Xiaoling burst in demanding makeup that matched a photo, Arabella, the store owner, didn’t know what to do.

HNI_0046

“Susan, I—I’m so sorry, but—could you handle this?!”

HNI_0034

Turns out I’m not too bad at doing makeup…

HNI_0037

Or styling hair, for that matter!

After Xiaoling’s transformation, everyone wanted to try my new services. Arabella and Noor–the owner of the hair salon–were more than happy to have me come by to take on clients.

And I have to say, there’s something about wielding a comb and scissors…

…that just makes me feel alive! (New hair, anyone?!?)

How Much Can You Do in a Day?

8/24/16

A LOT, it actually turns out! Over the course of my first day in Beaumonde City, I encountered so many wonderful new friends and amazing new experiences, not least of which was the process of entering Beaumonde itself. I’ve been writing and dreaming about it all these months like it was a place I could really up and move to, but instead, it turns out to be a sort of dolls’ world, hidden in the back of a dollhouse that belonged to my grandmother. That’s right—she left me the magical key, and a couple of days ago, I decided to open the door.

HNI_0063

Just go with it—after all, I didn’t see any reason not to, and look where it got me!

What I found was a beautiful, perfect little fashion-forward world full of girls just like me—the kind of young women who want to leave their mark on the world around them by expressing themselves through their own unique sense of style. Not least of these is the lovely Sophie…

HNI_0066

She’s the one who stepped out of the door onto my side, and offered her hand to help me through.

HNI_0068

I had to create a “doll” version of myself first, of course—I’d never have fit otherwise!

It seems my grandmother was at least partly responsible for creating this place—she and Sophie’s grandmother used to be close friends, and, in their time, the head fashionistas of this city. The fashion craze seems to have fallen a bit by the wayside now, but that didn’t stop me from stepping right up to the plate when Sophie asked me to become the new manager of her boutique!

HNI_0075

I mean, how could I say no to working in a place like THIS?!?

The door home—to my boutique and my quiet life in Styleville—is always there for me in the back room, in case I want to step out for a minute; I’ve still got the key, of course. But for the time being, I think it’s safe to say I’ll be staying here.

HNI_0077

With so much to explore, I’m not sure where to begin…

13

I just know that I can’t WAIT to go along for the ride.

28

And to one day become as well-renowned and gorgeous as Callie, current reigning model in this city…SIGH.

29

But for the time being, it’s my home-away-from-home…

And I love it here!

It’s Time…

8/19/2016
You know how, all those months ago, I kept talking about moving on, making it big, finally getting somewhere in the fashion world?

Well, it’s finally time for me to take that step.

Today, Styleville expands into a new horizon of beautiful (and not to mention chic) new opportunities. It’s never too late to start a new adventure and really pursue your calling, and for me that’s always meant more than just running a boutique. I want to help my customers with everything they could ever need, from shoes to hair and makeup, and of course, outfits I design myself.

Just think of the possibilities–in Beaumonde City, you can look this good ALL THE TIME! (Photo used thanks to another awesome article on this happening!!)

Sound a little out-there? Well, I’d think so, too, if I hadn’t just bought my ticket to Beaumonde City!!! Today—and tomorrow, and the next, and, yes, the one after that—I’ll be exploring this new place and finding ways to make it my home, and to really leave my mark on the fashion world. I may not get around to posting about my new adventures for a little while, but I promise that those stories are coming, and soon. Wish me luck, and do stick around for the ride! It promises to be nothing short of (fashionably) fabulous.

Help Me Get to Beaumonde City!

1/31/2016
As you may have read here or here, I’m getting ready to move out of Styleville to somewhere a little bit bigger, brighter, and more full of fashion. The trouble is that that same fashion economy could be happening right here in the Styleville, but just hasn’t made the leap overseas.

So before I sell all my worldly possession (just kidding, though I might need a very big boat to bring them all with me) and move to the southern coasts of England, I thought I’d put an appeal up here for all of you. If you’re interested in seeing new content on the blog, give this petition for bringing some style stateside a read.

As always, thanks so much for reading! Right now my travel plans are fairly set for early May, so the content I’m putting up will change a little then.

Also, a quick apology for the brief hiatus. School is in session once again, and you know how that always goes…

I end up so frazzled that it’s all I can do to drink tea and calm my nerves!

I end up so frazzled that all I can do is drink some tea and calm my nerves!

Happy Anniversary!

12/30/2015

It was three years ago today that my adventures in Styleville first went online. Hope you’ve been enjoying them so far, and that you’ll continue to return and read in the years to come!

I'll be around. <3

I’ll be around. ❤

I’m Alive … and Wanting

12/10/2015

Well, hello there! To all the faithful readers who have browsed pages in my absence—thank you so much for supporting and believing in me. Your readership has meant a lot over the past couple of years! So much has happened that I’m not quite sure where to begin, but I’m confident that you don’t want to hear all about school, school, and school, where is where most of my time has gone. The boutique and life in general have also kept me busy-busy-busy, too busy to do more than think about the blog every once in a while. However, now that I’m officially coming back, I want to get things off to the right sort of re-start!

On that note, I suppose I’ll address the most pressing matter from the get-go: I’m thinking that it’s time to move on from sleepy little Styleville—to begin truly making my way up in the fashion world. While I love the city and all it has to offer, and I’ve made great friends here and taken amazing strides within my own career, I can’t shake the feeling that there’s something else out there—something more, that’s waiting for me. So I looked around a little, and started hearing word through the grapevine about a place called Beaumonde City.

What’s Beaumonde City, you ask? An excellent question, seeing as I hadn’t heard of it myself before just a couple of days ago. Well, apparently, it is THE place to be if you’re anyone who wants to become Anyone in the fashion world these days. Beaumonde’s passion for fashion had flagged in the past—perhaps why I hadn’t heard of the place before—but now the community is coming back steady and strong, providing openings in retail, modeling, hair styling, cosmetics, and even clothing design for up-and-coming fashionistas such as yours truly! As if that weren’t enough to tempt me, apparently my grandmother left me an inheritance there, something from years ago. I’m not sure what it might be, but I do have a feeling that it will be key to establishing my place in this brave new space.

The only complication is that Beaumonde is far—quite far—from where I’m living now. So it’s going to take me a bit of time to pack my bags and say good-bye to Styleville University, and to the people who have taught me and helped me so much over the years. On top of that, I’ll have to do what may be the hardest thing of all—that is, say good-bye to Lilac Breeze, and hand it over to the assistants who have more than proven their worth through all the times they’ve been there to lend me a helping hand.

No one said it would be easy, but I believe I’m ready for it. And one way or the other, you can be sure that new adventures in fashion await us! Check back soon for more—and know that, for the time being, I’m back for good.

Frozen Solid

12/27/13

Finally got out to the theater to see Disney’s latest princess movie Frozen today. I’ve been meaning to go for about, oh, forever—it’s a retelling of The Snow Queen, and that’s one of my favorite fairy tales, after all! To celebrate the movie (and my undying love of Hans Christian Anderson and the newer stock of Disney heroines), I got all bundled up as Anna. I’d forgotten how much fun it was to cosplay—enjoy!

A Great Day to Wear a Striped Sweater!

9/14/13

It’s that time of year—time to prepare for pumpkins, colorful leaves, and apple cider. I don’t mind those parts of fall, of course, but the cold is what really gets to me!

Ah, well. Time to go on with another day!

Ah, well. Time to go on with another day!

This morning I did a lot of rearranging in the boutique and even ran into a couple of customers on my way through downtown.

Eee, look at all the cute new styles!

Eee, look at all the cute new styles!

Then I bought makeup and checked out the Buyer’s Center, where I snapped up tons of their new styles! Some of the things were just to die for, seriously. I can’t wait to see what they’ll have in stock tomorrow! And, after dropping by the Photo Studio, I finished off my day with a winning contest entry!

Turning Over a New Leaf

7/20/13

I needed something productive to put my free time toward this summer, and I decided a videogame would be the best way to fill that space. My new cartridge arrived in the mail today, and since I had this piece in my closet, I got a little dressed up for the occasion.

Animal Crossing New Leaf

On to adventure in the wild world of Animal Crossing!

Summer = Sun … Dress!

7/8/13

Well, I’ve been bitten by the sewing bug once again. For the past quite a while, I’ve been plugging away at this design, trying to bring it to life. It should be done by this Saturday, and who knows what’ll happen? If it looks even remotely similar to my design, I’ll be happy. Well, okay. It has to be comfortable, too.

Summer sunshine

A cute way to get some summer sunshine!
